This trail is perfect for those wanting to discover the island's past through its ruins and historic monuments while enjoying a pleasant walk through nature. Starting point The route begins in the center of Vila do Abraão, near the main dock. Look for T1 trail markings (Historic Circuit) to begin your adventure. Main points of interest Aqueduto de Ilha Grande Just a few minutes of walking away, you'll find this impressive aqueduct built in the 19th century. Its stone arches crossing through vegetation offer a perfect photo spot. Ruínas do Lazareto Continuing along the trail you'll reach the ruins of the former Lazareto, a complex that served as a quarantine hospital for immigrants between 1884 and 1913. You can observe the remains of buildings while imagining how life was back then. Antiga prisão de Dois Rios Although part of the ruins are covered by vegetation, this site holds the island's darkest history. It functioned as a maximum-security prison until 1994 and housed political prisoners during Brazil's military dictatorship.
