Starting point The route begins in the center of Vila do Abraão, near the main dock. Look for the T1 trail signs (Historic Circuit) to start your adventure. Main points of interest Aqueduct of Ilha Grande Just a few minutes' walk away, you'll find this impressive aqueduct built in the 19th century. Its stone arches crossing the vegetation offer the perfect photo opportunity. Ruins of Lazareto Continuing along the trail, you'll reach the ruins of the old Lazareto, a complex that served as a quarantine hospital for immigrants between 1884 and 1913. You can observe the remains of the buildings while imagining what life was like back then. Former prison of Dois Rios Although parts of the ruins are covered by vegetation, this site holds the darkest history of the island. It functioned as a maximum-security prison until 1994 and housed political prisoners during the Brazilian military dictatorship. Historic Circuit Viewpoint During the route, you'll find several viewpoints with panoramic views of Vila do Abraão bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Don't forget to bring your camera!
